Recipe Ideas

These days have been pretty much filled with kiddos.  It doesn’t really matter what side of the world they’re on.  Sometimes they’re wonderful and sweet and funny and helpful and sometimes they make me wish I had a better drop-kick.  So, I thought I’d just share something funny that was happening around the dinner table tonight.  We started talking about food and Abe started telling me about a new idea he had for a recipe.  And I quote:

“It’s called Isaac Guadalupe (incidentally the name of his new baby cousin).  It kinda tastes like gum pie.  First, you add some cookies.  Then you add some rice because then you would get healthy.  Then you get some gum, stick it inside of it.  Then put some food coloring on.  Then put some vegetables in, then some syrup on.  Then people want to take some wood and carve the vegetables.  Then get a juice box -- like the little one -- and squirt the juice on -- squisht!  Then you add some ice.  Then you add some powdered sugar.  Then add some brown salt -- I mean sugar -- you add both.  There’s your snack!  Isaac Guadalupe!”

Thanks, Abe, for that interesting take on nutritious eating.  Jed, not to be outdone began:

“I have a recipe -- it’s a kind of sandwich.  This dish is called fish sandwich.  First, get one -- no two -- pieces of bread.  Then get some cheese and butter and put it on the two pieces of fish-shaped bread and put it on the stove.  And then you can put a toothpick on the top, but with it, a black olive.”

I know we’ve had a lot of grilled cheese in our day, but does anyone out there know how he came up with this idea of the black olive eye?

Of course, then there’s Lucy.  At 2 1/2, she really thinks she’s at the exact place in life as her brothers.

“My recipe is the chameleons.  The Mama says, “It’s school time!”  Then they all do school and get the binders out and the pencils out -- out of Mama’s shirt.  And the chameleons all are different colors and they save the world and went in the waterfall.  And they’re on their way!”

I love how her vocabulary is way beyond her comprehension level.  It makes for some amazing study in stream of consciousness.  Well, that about sums up my day.  Well, most days lately.  Hope you enjoyed that little peek into mealtime at our house.

Yep, that's them!
